How OBR rankings work

ONTARIO BASEBALL RANKINGS (OBR) publishes independent youth baseball hitting rankings for Ontario, Canada. The live age group is 9U. Public boards are AA and AAA where an association actually competes at that level. OBR is not a league office and does not replace an association’s own standings.

Association-only pools

A ranking pool is one association, one season, one age group, and one public board (AA or AAA). EOBA 9U AAA is a different list from TBA 9U AAA. Players are not mixed across associations on those pages. The combined Ontario board is the exception in layout only: it shows every live association on one page while still applying each association’s own qualification rules. A TBA hitter is never judged by EOBA minimums, and the reverse is also true.

Qualification

Rank and OBR Score unlock only after a player meets that association’s minimum games played and minimum at-bats. Those thresholds can differ by association. Until a player qualifies, the name can still appear on the public board so families can find the profile; the official rank stays locked. Team rankings use the same idea: a team is compared inside its association pool after it meets the published game minimum for that board.

What the OBR Score measures

The OBR Score is a composite hitting score. It standardizes batting average, hits, RBI, and runs so qualified players (or teams) can be compared fairly inside one pool. Counting stats are pro-rated where the methodology requires it so a player with fewer official games is not automatically buried or inflated. OBR does not publish pitching rankings, and it does not fold defensive metrics into the hitting score.

The exact OBR Score, the overall rank, and the category ranks (average, hits, RBI, runs) require a free account. Search engines, social previews, and this methodology page describe the system; they do not dump a top-10 table of averages. That split lets OBR stay cite-able for “Ontario 9U rankings” and “Durham Region youth baseball” without turning gated stats into open data.

Geography this applies to

OBR covers Ontario, including Durham Region (Whitby, Ajax, Oshawa, Pickering, Clarington) and Greater Toronto (Scarborough, North York, Leaside, East York). Use the Durham, Toronto, and Ontario hubs to reach the right association. Canada appears only as “Ontario, Canada” — OBR is not a national ranking.

Statistics are tracked and maintained by OBR Administration. If a number looks wrong, report a stat issue and an administrator will review it.
